The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, and promoting social progress, better living standards, and human rights.

It is now made up of 193 Member States who have all signed the UN Charter – a set of principles that form the basis for cooperation between them.

The UN works on a wide range of issues, from human rights to disarmament; from economic development to environmental protection; from humanitarian relief to counter-terrorism. All these activities are aimed at achieving its ultimate goal: creating conditions for lasting peace throughout the world.

The work done by the United Nations has had a significant impact on global affairs over its 75-year history since it was established in 1945 following World War II with one main aim – “to save succeeding generations from war” as stated in Article 1 of its charter which also outlines other aims such as encouraging respect for human rights & fundamental freedoms without discrimination & promoting social progress & better standards living worldwide.

Its various departments have been involved in numerous initiatives including providing aid during natural disasters, helping refugees flee conflict zones, regulating arms control treaties between states, negotiating ceasefires during armed conflicts, and upholding laws against genocide.

Since then, it has grown into an organization with many different roles ranging from mediating diplomatic disputes between member states through establishing trade agreements or even running peacekeeping missions around the globe.

One example is their intervention within Syria where they provided food supplies and medical assistance sheltering millions of displaced people due refugee camps while attempting to negotiate an end to civil war through brokering ceasefire negotiations talks involving major players regions like Russia, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, etcetera.

This shows how powerful a tool like diplomacy can be when used correctly to prevent further destruction of lives, property, resources, environment, and society as a whole country by itself, thus making the world a safer place to live. So everyone, no matter what race, religion, gender, nationality, political beliefs, or any other factor cannot separate us humans and our common humanity and goodwill toward each other.
