Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google. It is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open-source software and is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
In addition to touchscreen devices, Google has further developed Android TV for televisions, Android Auto for cars, and Wear OS for wristwatches, each with a specialized user interface. Variants of Android are also used on game consoles, digital cameras, PCs, and other electronics.
Android was developed by the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), which was led by Google, and other companies like Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., HTC Corporation, Motorola Mobility, and Sony Mobile Communications Inc. The first commercial version of Android was released on September 23, 2008. Since then many more versions have been developed and introduced to the market.
