Alaska Area Codes

Alaska is a beautiful and unique state with area codes that make it easy to stay connected. Knowing the Alaska area codes can help you keep in touch with family and friends who live in different parts of the state or want to call someone from another part of Alaska.

The most common area code for all areas within Alaska is 907. This includes Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, and other cities throughout the state. However, it’s important to note that while this may be considered one “area code” by some providers or services (like phone companies), each city has its specific three-digit prefixes, which must be dialed when making calls within those cities or regions – even if they are using the same 907 number as their main line!
For example: In Anchorage alone, five different three-digit prefixes are associated with numbers beginning with “907.” These include 274 for South Central/Anchorage; 344 for East Anchorage; 563 for Midtown/Downtown; 688 for Westside/Eagle River; 745 & 868 for Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson (JBER). So when calling from one side of town to another, dial 1 + 907 and add these additional digits so your call will reach its intended destination properly!

Other than this standard “907” code, there are several other smaller regionally based ones, including 250 covering Sitka & Ketchikan; 272 covering Kodiak Island; 474 surrounding Haines, Skagway & Klukwan; 465 which covers Petersburg, Wrangell & Metlakatla. In addition, two extraordinary toll-free 800 numbers are primarily used by businesses providing statewide services such as utilities. Finally, any long-distance calls outside these designated zones require an additional 1+ plus whatever ten-digit number is being called, regardless if it’s domestic US-based or international overseas locations!

Understanding what type of phone number you have been given before placing a call can save time and frustration, especially during emergencies where every second counts! We hope knowing more about Alaskan Area Codes helps keep our customers connected better no matter where life takes them.
