It is the third-largest cable television provider in the country, serving more than 6 million customers.

The company was founded in 1962 by James M. Cox, who owned a newspaper chain with more than 60 newspapers across the country. He started Cox Communications as a way to provide his newspapers with better telecommunications services so they could better compete with other media outlets.

Cox Communications has grown significantly since its inception, expanding its service area and acquiring other companies along the way. Today it is one of the largest providers of digital cable TV, high-speed Internet, and telephone services in the United States.
