The XIO, a normally closed button or switch, also known as (Examine if Open), instruction performs the function opposite to the XIC (Examine if Closed). It’s a fundamental instruction for working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The main purpose of this instruction is to check if an input is open or not. If the input is found to be open, then the PLC will take a specific action. This action could be turning on a light, starting a motor, or anything else that has been programmed into the PLC.

This instruction is important because it allows for greater control over inputs and outputs in a system. For example, imagine you have a door that you only want to open when someone pushes the button and holds it down for three seconds. With an XIO instruction in place checking for an open input on the button circuit, you can be sure that your door will only open when someone intentionally wants it too – not just whenever somebody bumps into the button!

In summary, XIO instructions are key in allowing PLCs more flexibility and control over inputs and outputs by examining if something is OPEN rather than CLOSED like with traditional examine instructions.
