Water is one of the most essential elements of human life. It makes up approximately 60% of our bodies and is required for many crucial functions, such as flushing out toxins, transporting nutrients, and lubricating our joints. Even a small drop in our body’s water content can lead to dehydration, which can cause fatigue, headaches, and dizziness.

While we need water to survive, it’s also important to be mindful of how much water we use on a daily basis. The average person uses 80-100 gallons per day for activities like showering, cooking, and doing laundry, not including the water we use when watering our lawns or filling up our swimming pools. With nearly 7 billion people on Earth competing for finite freshwater resources, it’s more important than ever to conserve water whenever possible.

Water covers about 71% of the Earth’s surface. It is found in oceans, rivers, lakes, and underground reservoirs called aquifers. About 96% of all the water on Earth is in oceans. The other 4% is frozen in glaciers or ice caps or exists as groundwater (water that has soaked into the ground). Less than 1% of all freshwater (freshwater not including saltwater) is available for human use; most freshwater goes towards agriculture irrigation. In some areas of the world, people do not have enough clean water to drink or use for everyday tasks like cooking and cleaning. It is a vital part of the Earth’s ecosystem. Without water, there would be no life on Earth. We also use it to generate electricity and to cool factories and power plants.

There are many easy ways to save water at home without compromising your lifestyle. Taking shorter showers, turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth or shaving, and fixing leaky faucets are all simple yet effective ways to reduce your daily water footprint. By making small changes in your daily routine, you can help preserve this vital resource for future generations.
