A lexicographer is someone who compiles dictionaries. They are responsible for researching the etymologies and histories of words, as well as their current usage. Lexicographers must have a strong knowledge of languages in order to do their job properly.
The first known lexicographer was Simonides of Ceos, who lived in the 6th century BC. He is credited with creating the first alphabetical dictionary. Since then, there have been many other notable lexicographers, such as Dr Samuel Johnson, who compiled the first comprehensive English dictionary in 1755.
Today, lexicography is an important field that helps us to understand language and its evolution over time. Without lexicographers, we would not have access to accurate information about words and their meanings.
