The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for issues that concern information and communication technologies. The ITU was founded in 1865, making it one of the oldest international organizations in the world. Its headquarters are located in Geneva, Switzerland, and it has more than 190 member states.

The ITU’s main objective is to “connect all the people of the world” by ensuring that everyone has access to telecommunications services and information networks. In order to achieve this goal, the ITU works on standardization, allocation of the radio spectrum, and satellite orbits; as well as working on development projects related to Information Communications Technology (ICT). One of its most essential functions is regulating international telecommunications traffic so that countries can communicate with each other seamlessly.
It also helps connect developing countries with developed ones by providing them with technical assistance and training programs.
