DSLAM – Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer

A Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) is a network device used to connect multiple customer premises equipment (CPE) devices to an internet service provider’s local access network. It aggregates the data from all CPEs and provides them with high-speed digital subscriber line services such as Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, Very High Bit Rate DSL, and Symmetric DSL. The main purpose of using a DSLAM is that it can provide higher speeds than traditional modems while still being cost-effective for ISPs. Additionally, it allows customers to use their existing phone lines instead of having dedicated fiber or copper cables installed in order to access broadband services.
