The role of the CIO has evolved significantly over the past few years. No longer is the CIO simply responsible for managing and maintaining technology infrastructure. Instead, they are now expected to be strategic business partners who can help drive growth and competitive advantage. In order to be successful in this new role, CIOs must have a deep understanding of both technology and business.

The first step for CIOs is to develop a clear understanding of their company’s business strategy. They need to know what their company is trying to achieve and how technology can help support those goals. Once they have a good grasp on the strategy, they can start working on developing a roadmap for how technology will be used to support it. This roadmap should align with the overall business plan and should be updated on a regular basis as things change.

In addition to being strategic partners, CIOs must also be excellent communicators. They need to be ableto explain complex technical concepts in simple terms that non-technical people can understand. They also need topersuade others of the value of investing in new technologies or taking risks on new initiatives.
