MEKA in Everyday Practice (1-page quick guide)

What it is (in human terms)

  • Think of MEKA as “spell it so it stays true.”
    If a word/term/policy/code name carries its root meaning and we write it clearly, people (and systems) won’t argue later about what it meant.
  • When meaning drifts, we fix it with a simple loop:
    See → Test → Tweak → Lock. (That’s the “Empirical Loop.”)

The 3 core ideas

  1. Roots anchor meaning. Always keep (or add) a short “root” line: word → root(s) → short sense.
  2. Name things once, clearly. Short name + one-sentence definition beats paragraphs.
  3. Close the loop. If you change a meaning, record it and re-share. No silent edits.

5 rules you can actually use

  1. Name it. Spell it. Anchor it.
    When introducing any term (feature, policy, contract clause), add a one-liner:
    • Term: “Grace Window”
    • Root: gratia (Latin: favor/goodwill) + window (time opening)
    • Meaning: “A short, pre-agreed time to fix issues without penalty.”
  2. Spot fuzziness? Run the 3-part rebuild. (Prefix – Root – Suffix)
    E.g., “anti-pseudonym-auth” → anti (against) + pseudo (false) + nym (name) + auth (verify).
    Now nobody asks “what did you mean?”
  3. Keep a tiny drift log.
    A 3-column table: When | What changed | Why (link to message/doc).
  4. Use tone guards, not tone wars.
    If a word is “hot” (e.g., “woke,” “toxic”), write the neutral version: “We observed X behavior in Y context.” Then add the root note so people don’t argue semantics.
  5. Lock after agreement.
    Once a team agrees, mark the definition as final (date + initials). If you revise later, make a new dated line—don’t overwrite.

A starter glossary (plain-English)

  • Root line: A tiny note of where a word comes from and its core sense.
  • Drift: When a word’s meaning slides over time.
  • Loop (See→Test→Tweak→Lock): The fix cycle: notice it, try a better wording, update the definition, mark final.
