The definition of the number 5 is a whole number that follows four and precedes six. It is an odd composite number, composed of two prime numbers: 2 and 3, multiplied together. Five has many properties in mathematics that make it special; for example, it is the only prime whose sum with another prime (7) produces a square (12). Additionally, 5 can be divided evenly into 1/5th or 0.2 parts without leaving any remainder when using decimal notation.

In addition to its mathematical significance, five plays an important role in everyday life as well as culture around the world. In Japan for instance where “go” means “five” there are often references to this particular numeral throughout their literature and art forms such as haiku poetry which typically have 17 syllables broken down into three lines of 5-7-5 respectively representing something like emotion or nature – this structure being symbolic for perfection due to its symmetry about the middle line containing 7 syllables which itself being divisible by both 2 & 3 just like 5!
