FAQs For Choosing Your T1 Internet Provider

Many businesses have a need for dedicated and fast web connection. This is particularly true in this globalizing world, where information transfer between far-flung places need to be quick and reliable. Most of us would be content with a business broadband line, but larger companies and companies which routinely connect to the web or host their own servers should consider getting a T1 internet provider to service their needs.

A T1 Internet Connection is one which uses a dedicated phone line or fiber optic cable for data transfer or telephony. Each cable can handle around 1.544 Megabits per second worth of data. The dedicated nature of a T1 connection ensures maximum reliability and allows hundreds of users to use the connection without the loss of quality of service.

Another good way to use a T1 connection is to link up multiple connections in order to have a greater bandwidth. For instance, you can get 24 T1 Lines and dedicate some to telephony and the rest to web access. This will create an additive bandwidth and will ensure that you get really fast speeds for your connection.

T1 connections are commonly given by telephone companies or telecoms as a service for large customers, since they are commonly the providers for the net backbones. In general, T1 connections are directly connected to the backbone or net exchange to facilitate faster data transfer rates. For telephony, they are connected to telephone exchanges in order to handle large numbers of phone calls.

A T1 internet provider is a firm which sets-up the connection from the telephone company to your offices or web servers, in the absence of your dedicated IT staff. Since you are using a leased line from the telephone company, there will be an extra charge for the use of their infrastructure. In fact, most telephone companies are also providing T1 services by themselves to lessen the cost.

The T1 provider will also be able to set-up the infrastructure necessary at the client end. For simpler needs, you can use a T1 router which is commonly bundled with the package. However, when you are hosting web servers and other infrastructure which relies on a more efficient service with little to no downtime, then the T1 connection may be directly connected to the server through more dedicated infrastructure. Your service provider should be able to take care of this for you.

T1 is generally not practical for small to medium enterprises, due to its prohibitively high price and due to the fact that these companies do not generally need such services. Most would be content with large bandwidth DSL lines or even cable connections. However, IT and Internet-based companies may see some advantage with this, especially when they do business process outsourcing (BPO) or cloud hosting.

Large companies and corporations will definitely need to use T1 connections to ensure reliable and quality service. Commonly, T1 providers will only serve larger customers and will offer deals based on the need of the client, relying less on packages. Large enterprises will find the utility of a T1 connection immense.

How A T1 Line Price Is Determined

There are a number of speeds that can be used on a T1 line. The ability of a line to get the best speeds available for it is important. A T1 line that has guaranteed and consistent connections to 1544k speeds will be more expensive. This is because 1544k is the fastest connection speed that can work with a T1 line. A reason why access to this speed is expensive is because it is used by only one group. This is the group that is paying for the line and its services.
