Many people often ask the question, “What is LAN“, well, LAN is more generally identified as Local Area Network which brings groups of computers together on the same connection. These places can be in office, schools, a company and store, pretty much anyplace. The minimum LAN connection available can only connect 2 computers; however the larger LAN can bring together lots of computers.

There are 2 types of LAN, a wired or wireless connection. If you choose a wired LAN, each computer has to be linked by an Ethernet cable; in turn this connects all the computers in to a chief device called a switch. A wireless LAN doesn’t need a cable as radio waves are used to communicate.

Wireless LAN is a lot cheaper and easier to fit, however the software that is needed with the wireless is more complicated. Wired LAN tends to be more difficult to fit as it needs cables called Ethernet to be fitted to the switch, router or modem. It is probable that a wireless LAN can run more slowly than a wired LAN. This all depends on the wireless quality.

The big advantage of having a LAN is that every computer linked can share information and equipment. This makes it a great deal easier to correspond around the place of work or office, resources, use other equipment like printers and also share files. It is achievable to select the files and programmes which can be used and shared by all connected computers.

Installing LAN can also help to bring down running costs of businesses, which is a big advantage. For starters, sharing one main printer will save on electricity bills. The ability to communicate in the office without having to leave your work station is also a bonus and will also help run a business more competently.

The LAN Party is a fun feature for those who enjoy playing computer games. Principally, this enables people to be in one place to participate in multi player games that are all connected to the one LAN. Friends can meet at one home, bringing their own computers to a central location. They then connect to the LAN to participate in games. It is possible to hold larger LAN parties, but these need more work to put together and can also be held for many days.

Another feature available is LAN Messenger. It is like all other well-known instant messaging facilities, however using LAN messenger has advantages. LAN messenger operates within a private residence or business and can not be infiltrated by spammers, in short means any information that is shared remains private. With the LAN Messenger you get file share, enter chat rooms and send instant messages, much like the other messenger services.

LAN is a great creation. It’s an asset to both the general public and businesses alike. Also, parents can manage the access that their children have to the worldwide web which is good news for parents. Owners of Companies can run and operate their business more efficiently and smoothly, this was a lot harder before this sort of equipment was invented. It has made an enormous difference to the world of gaming, enabling lots of friends to get together and play games in one place and for multi players.

The “last mile” problem revolves around the creation of a network for telephone and cable company between the people and the provider. In particular, it refers to the last part of the network where the consumer is linked up to the company, in places where a lot of consumers require it. More and more people desire the services, forcing the industry to develop a cheap but reliable alternative. One of the biggest issues with the last mile problem is that the system needs to be quick and provide a higher exchange of data at the same time.

Over the last while, the earlier networking systems are being taxed to their limits. Some new ideas have been put into use, and though they’ve proven somewhat better, the issues haven’t been resolved completely. One of these issues is a form of noise that happens when the network is in use. The noise reduces the overall strength of the signal and in turn limits the amount of information that can be sent and received at once.

In additional, there are a large number of customers that need to be provided for. To do so, the service provider uses high volume conduits to send their signal a great distance while using lower volume conduits to direct it to the people. As the signal spreads out, it goes through increasingly smaller conduits, ending at the connection directly linked to the subscriber. Also, the flow can be managed much easier by local service providers when the it’s broken into more manageable chunks. It can get costly, however, as there is an expense to link each person and the upkeep that comes with it.

In the early days of the Internet, computers were linked together through a wire line. The original LANs (Local Area Network) consisted of several computers that were connected together in this way. The process required a type of programming called a protocol. The most commonly used is known as the TCP/IP, or Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. When more computers and more LANs were connected, the network grew much larger.

Under most circumstances, it isn’t costly to raise the volume of the conduits, other than the construction expenses. With more and more people connecting to the Internet, an even higher volume conduit has to be installed to handle it. The result has been a much higher capacity system. This has led to a significant increase in the amount of fiber optic cable used, especially in the U. S., where they now have an excess.

But the extra has not gone to waste. The fiber optics have held up, despite the rise in people using the system. And, the only real limits in them have occurred near the customer. It won’t be enough for long, however, because the demands of the consumers is growing still. So, the last mile problem becomes finding a way to fulfill this demand for steadily more people while still making it affordable for the company and the client.

Telecom services providers have improved the portfolio of services they offer to their customers with the advancements in the technology. Verizon is one of the largest service providers in the United States with extensive network stretching across the country. While there a many services that it offers, the Verizon T1 line is of special importance to the customers.

The T1 line in itself has some inherent benefits. It is based on the hierarchical structure of PDH technology. What this means is that within the T1 line, multiple sub divisions can be made and each can be used to carry a different type of traffic. The T1 line can sync up to the needs of the service type accordingly.

While the technology is quite versatile, Verizon has come out with a varied rate plans for the customers to tap into this technology too. The Subscriber access line is a simple T1 from the customer location to the wire center. This service is offered with fixed or recurring rates. The channel mileage service comes with fixed charges and some mileage charges based on airline mileage. Lastly, the T1 line can be delivered with special options like hubbing, signalling and others. These options have different rates associated with them.

The T1 lines in the Verizon network can be transported over the SONET network across the nation. As a result, the links are always protected from failure. The SONET redundancy ensures a high level of link availability.

There are multiple applications of the Verizon T1 line. For the CLECs this is the ideal link to connect their customers in Verizon territory to their POPs. Similarly, the CLECs can also buy T1 links for connect their own POPs for special data services. Enterprises can use these lines to connect their offices directly too. Such links are used for computer to computer or LAN to LAN connections over the WAN.

The T1 line is also great for transferring compressed video signals. These lines are commonly used to connect the cellular towers with the switching centres too. Being built for voice services initially, the T1 line extends itself to cellular networks well.

While the T1 service in itself is not a new service, it was not highly popular in the beginning. The two main reasons were the high price for the service and the lack of traffic from businesses to justify such investments. With technological advancements, the price points have come down for the T1 Internet lines. At the same time with growing interconnectivity the need for a service like T1 is also justified for the business. This has led to an increase in demand for Verizon T1 line service.
