Understanding Your WAN – Wide Area Network

The other networks mentioned above are all for smaller areas, local and personal. Campuses or metropolitan areas serve as focuses for these types of networks. What separates the WAN from the rest, is the shear SIZE of it. An example of a WAN network would be the internet. Extremely broad in its range, it's the largest of the network types.

Learning About WAN – Wide Area Network

The LAN and MAN are for smaller geographical areas. These types of networks are used for metropolitan areas or college campuses, large stores, etc. The main difference for the WAN is in the size of it's area coverage. The internet is a perfect example of a WAN network. It is the largest of all of the networks, and connects computers and users from all over the world and enables them to communicate with one another.

LAN and MAN networks are used for smaller areas. Places like universities and stores take advantage of their services. What separates the WAN network is the geographical range, the huge area it's able to cover. The best example would be the internet. This is a WAN network. It's actually the largest in size of all the networks. Users and computers from around the world are able to communicate through WAN networking.
