Almost Two Million Mobile WiMAX Subscribers Expected by End of 2009 – ABI Research

Mobile WiMax subscribers are expected to reach 2 million by the end of 2009, according to a recent report from ABI Research. WiMax’s subscriber numbers are rising, but the picture is quite mixed, according to the report. Clearwire, the majority share of which is owned by Sprint Nextel, now claims 173,000 subscribers, while Russia’s Yota reached 200,000 in October and PackOne, in Malaysia, claims 130,000 subscribers.

WiMAX Forum urges India to Proceed with Auctions in Jan 2010; Intel to the rescue?

Amid concerns that India’ auction of 3G spectrum may be delayed yet again, the WiMAX Forum has said that every six months of delay in the process results in $1bn in lost revenues for the country. The latest official date given for the auction is January 2010, but after numerous delays this may be postponed yet again.
