What To Know About Gigabytes Per Second

Normally, such bit rates are stated to be numbers of a single bit in a second or a "byte" in a second. It is helpful to think of a bit as little more than just a way to describe the information or packet and that it is a shortening of the word "binary unit" (B-IT, or Binary unIT). All that a byte is encompasses just eight bits of information, and a gigabyte would be 8,000,000 bps of information.

The Miracle Of Gigabytes Per Second (GB/s Or GBps)

Bit rates, as a matter of fact, are nothing more than rates that have been expressed in multiples of a single bit of information per second. Also, a bit rate can be used to describe a "byte" in a second, which is a higher amount of information than a single bit. Think of a bit as a contraction of the word binary unit and any byte as eight bits of data. A gigabyte, then, would be 8 million bits of data per second transferred.

Bandwidth And It’s Meaning To You

If you have a low bandwidth, and a quick disk drive, the drive can be impeded by the bandwidth. That's why when you go to a hosting company and seek their services, the different options they offer are due to the different amounts of bandwidth that are needed for the different types of site. It translates better as 'how much traffic that can be allowed between the rest of the internet and your site'.
