Facts About T1 Broadband Internet
While the internet has revolutionized our communications, education and entertainment, T1 Broadband is now revolutionizing the internet. The benefits to those who use the T1 Broadband connection are much faster speed for transmission of data. In comparison tests performed, the T1 Broadband, while working at its slowest speed, has shown to be 10 times faster than a dial up connection.
The advantages to Broadband internet are that those files, movies, pictures and software updates that used to take hours with a dial up connection can now be downloaded in minutes, if not seconds. Broadband is described, in the Webster’s dictionary as being a communications network that divides a frequency range into multiple channels to achieve simultaneous transmission of signals.
So now you’re probably wondering what exactly is a T1, it’s obviously an internet connection of some sort, but let’s take a closer look at what it is. It’s basic description is a dedicated phone connection supporting data transfer rates of 1. 544 megabits per second. This is where they get the Mbps rating that is commonly used. If you were to look closer you would see that a T1 line actually contains 24 individual pathways. These are most commonly referred to as channels.
Each of these channels is capable of providing up to 64 Kbps of data transmission. That is a kilobits per second rating. It is no wonder these lines are so fast, 24 channels each providing 64 kilobits per second. That’s a lot of data. T1 lines are sometimes called DS1 lines. They are the common internet connection for many colleges and medium sized businesses.
Each channel in a T1 is also able to be assigned to voice or data traffic. The T1 is designed using two pair fibre wiring. In many applications the T1 line is run into the building on standard copper wire. An example of the capabilities of the T1 line is this, an office that has between 50 and 100 workers, each with standard telephone needs, can be serviced with the use of one T1 line. How many phone lines does that save.
The T1 is said to be a very reliable service. Each circuit starts at a central location and is designed specifically for the route it will service. Often times if distance is great they will make use of repeaters to boost the signal on the T1 line and maintain the quality and speed that is promised.
This centre of origin of the T1 service is also the place from which all T1 systems are constantly monitored, and many times if a problem is found it can be repaired remotely. The T1 as well as providing faster data transmission rates also provides clear crisp sound when applied to a voice application.
The T1 is also reported to be very cost efficient. Implementation of its services does include typical installation charges, but many clients report making up this cost in their very first year. With the inclusion of all the added benefits of a T1 line, it makes it a very valuable addition. Many clients also report a lower monthly cost than they had previously been paying.
