Why Pay More for Ethernet Over Fiber Internet?

If it costs more, why on earth should your business spring for Ethernet over fiber internet?

Simple!

When you sign up for Ethernet over fiber internet, you’ll get:

1.  More Bandwidth

There’s virtually no limit to the amount of bandwidth that fiber lines can carry.  In fact, some Ethernet over fiber internet providers are offering up to 10 Gbps if you want it!  Right now, bandwidth that high isn’t the norm, but you shouldn’t have any trouble finding 1 Gbps – which is still much higher than copper.

Bottom line – if you’ve got a big company, or just a need for incredible speed, you’d be crazy not to go with fiber!  Nothing else even comes close to this stuff!

2.  More flexibility when it comes to distance

Copper lines can travel quite a ways, but the further you string copper, the more likely you are to fall victim to interference.  Plus, since copper isn’t exactly cheap, the more of it you need to string, the more your prices are going to shoot up.

Fiber cable, however, loses virtually nothing during the transmission process – no matter how far the signal needs to travel.  It doesn’t need as much boosting as copper cable does, so the end result it much better.

Plus, fiber cable is much cheaper than Ethernet over copper, so if it has to be strung over longer distances, it’s not going to be so pricey material-wise.

3.  Intruders that are easier to spot

Security is much easier to keep a handle on when you have Ethernet over fiber internet because it's dedciated Bandwidth.

Why?

If someone tries to tap your fiber line, light is going to leak out.  (Remember, this stuff is called “fiber optics” for a reason!)  As a result, your provider will be able to tell immediately that something is wrong.  Copper doesn’t send up as strong of a signal when its integrity has been compromised.

4.  Lower maintenance costs

Yes, Ethernet over fiber internet is going to cost you more to get up and running.  However, as technology has become more advanced, those prices have started to trickle down.

Copper, on the other hand, actually costs more to keep up and running because it’s a pricier material.  If something goes wrong with your copper line, it’s going to be much more expensive to fix, so your costs may balance out at the first snafu!

5.  No need to upgrade later

More and more providers are switching to fiber, so if you have copper, it’s only a matter of time before you have to switch.  If you’re looking to invest in one or the other now, you might as well pay a little more now and skip the upgrade costs later!
